How is Botox® Administered?

Those little lines that appear across your forehead or between your brows with your facial expressions may not bother you at first. Years of repetition make these lines deeper, and eventually, they remain even with your face at rest. Botox® treats fine lines and wrinkles, letting you look refreshed and natural.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is an injectable treatment using botulinum toxin. This compound acts on facial nerves, preventing them from telling facial muscles to contract. The lack of signals lets the muscles relax, smoothing your skin and letting your wrinkles disappear. Without the muscle activity, your wrinkles stay relaxed and do not become deeper.

How is Botox® Administered?

Botox® is administered as a series of injections into the target area. These tiny needles usually feel like nothing worse than a small pinch. The injections usually take about fifteen minutes, although they may take longer if you have several areas treated.

The most common areas for Botox® use are crow’s feet (lines at the corners of the eyes), horizontal forehead creases, and vertical lines between the brows (glabellar lines or the 11s). Botox® also has medical uses for treating muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and migraines.

The amount of Botox® injected depends on several factors:

  • The size of the area being treated
  • Your desired results (whether you prefer a more subtle or more noticeable look)
  • Your body’s unique response to Botox®

For example, men may need more Botox® than women because they often have larger, thicker facial muscles. Your expert injector will determine the correct amount and location of your Botox® to achieve your desired results.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox®?

People love Botox® for many reasons, including the lack of downtime. You may hear Botox® referred to as a “lunchtime procedure” because you can squeeze it into a small break in your busy schedule. You can return to your usual activities immediately. However, you should avoid rubbing your face or bending over for several hours after your injections. You may notice minor redness, bruising, or swelling in the injection area.

What Results Will I See After Botox®?

While everyone loves instant gratification, your Botox® results will take a few days to appear. Full results can take up to ten days to develop. You will notice the treated area looking increasingly smooth and relaxed without a fake or frozen look. Botox® results usually last three to four months, although they may last longer for some people.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Almost all healthy adults can receive Botox® injections. Good candidates want to prevent or address the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Candidates should have reasonable expectations. You should not have Botox® if you have an infection or active skin condition in the treatment area.

Professional staff, quality care during both of my visits, and a beautiful facility. Dr. Neill was great and super efficient. He even took the time to call me later after my surgery to see how I was doing. Can’t get better then that! Will definitely recommend.
