What is Forehead Reduction Surgery?
Many people struggle with high hairlines, low eyebrows, or large foreheads that cause them embarrassment or frustration. At Faces Fort Worth, Dr. Sonneveld performs forehead reduction surgery for immediate and noticeable improvement to your forehead and hairline.
What is Forehead Reduction Surgery?
Forehead reduction surgery is a cosmetic procedure for reducing the height of the forehead and correcting the appearance of a receding hairline. Often patients may combine the procedure with hair grafting, facelifts, eyelid lifts, or some types of eyebrow lifts.
While it may raise the eyebrows some as the skin is pulled into position, forehead reduction surgery does not readjust the position of the eyebrows. Many patients use forehead reduction surgery to readjust their forehead shape and size or minimize the appearance of hair loss.
What to Expect from Forehead Reduction Surgery?
Dr. Sonneveld may use general or local anesthesia for your comfort during surgery. Our expert surgical team will mark the hairline and areas of the forehead with a surgical skin marker. The lines allow us to carefully remove the excess skin while preserving hair follicles and nerves.
After preparing you for surgery, Dr. Sonneveld carefully cuts an incision along the marked area and separates the skin from the connective tissue. He removes the excess skin and tissue, then pulls the top incision down to close the gap.
Sutures or staples hold the skin in place and minimize scar formation, and the scar is hidden along the hairline. We may trim the hair to allow easy access and conceal the incision upon regrowth.
Forehead reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure at Faces Fort Worth. We will check your condition a few hours after surgery and send you home for recovery.

How Long is Recovery from Forehead Reduction Surgery?
After your procedure, we clean the incision and wrap your head with sterile padding and elastic bandages. The dressings keep your incisions clean and protected during initial recovery. Most patients return to work after a week of downtime.
After 48 hours, we remove the bandages. We do not recommend showering or bathing until after we remove the surgical dressings. If your sutures require removal, we will schedule an appointment within two weeks after surgery to remove them.
You may experience numbness and temporary discomfort, easily controlled with pain medication. We recommend keeping your head elevated for two to three days to reduce swelling. You can expect bruising and swelling around the eyes and cheeks that subsides within a few days.
As your forehead regains feeling, you may experience some itchiness or tingling. These sensations may take up to six months to disappear entirely. We recommend avoiding contact sports or direct sun exposure for six to eight weeks.
After two to three months, most signs of surgery fade completely. Makeup covers any residual swelling and bruising.
