Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?

Facials, chemical peels, and microneedling help reduce signs of aging and rejuvenate the skin, but few treatments provide the results of a facelift. For patients with advanced signs of aging, Faces Fort Worth recommends a facelift to tighten sagging skin, reduce wrinkles, and restore a more youthful complexion.

What is a Facelift?

Facelifts are a cosmetic procedure designed to restore the youthful appearance of the lower, mid, and upper face. The customizable method allows patients to target specific aging concerns for facial rejuvenation.

Some of the concerns that facelifts can address include droopy jowls, excess skin and fat below the chin, lines around the mouth, and sagging skin and tissue on the forehead and midface. Dr. Sonneveld carefully listens to all your concerns to help determine the best techniques for your facelift.

The procedure takes two to five hours, depending on the extent of the rejuvenation. Most facelifts involve removing excess skin and tightening the muscles beneath the skin’s surface. The incisions are hidden in the hairline to prevent any noticeable scarring.

Who is a Candidate for a Facelift?

Ideal candidates are healthy nonsmokers with no medical conditions that impair healing. Facelifts cannot stop aging but can help turn back the clock. We recommend patients have a positive outlook but realistic expectations for their results.

When is the Best Time to Get a Facelift?

Facelifts require up to three weeks of recovery. During this time, you will be limited in the activities you can do to prevent disturbing your incisions. We do not recommend getting a facelift within a month of a big event. While healing, you will need to protect your skin from direct sunlight, so we do not recommend planning beach trips during your healing period.

What to Expect with Recovery from a Facelift

During your facelift recovery, you will spend most of your time resting and caring for your incisions. Try to avoid touching the incisions except as instructed by your doctor. You can manage any pain and discomfort from swelling and bruising through prescribed pain medication.

The Faces Fort Worth team will give instructions on when to remove the dressing and drains and schedule follow-up appointments to check your healing. Once the swelling subsides, you can enjoy the final results of your procedure.

What Results Can I Expect from a Facelift?

Results from a facelift cannot prevent natural aging, but a facelift helps restore your youthful appearance and reverse years of facial changes. A facelift repositions fat and tissue to smooth creases, remove excess skin, and tighten facial features.

Many patients are satisfied with their facelift results for 10 years or more. Depending on your goals, you may want a touch-up procedure in the future to maintain results. To extend the results of your facelift, we recommend moisturizing your face daily, protecting your skin from the sun, getting plenty of sleep, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Sonneveld and his staff provide excellent care and service. If you have any apprehension at all, this is the practice to come to. They are extremely patient, loving and kind, and explain everything to you if they have to. I love them.
